IRC channel
From LilyPond Wiki
You can find Lilypond's IRC channel at #lilypond on the server irc.freenode.net. You can access it with your habitual IRC client, such as Xchat, Pidgin, BitchX, mIRC, PIJRC, irssi, and many others.
This channel was founded by Simon Plante; it is primilarly intended to help LilyPond users with typesetting issues.
For instance, newbies can find there support that they are not likely to get on the mailing lists, because when you send a message to a list, the list's folks rightfully assume you have first searched in the documentation, in the list archives, and sometimes even in the source code, as explained in the Mailing Lists HOWTO.
Many users actually encounter a steep learning curve with LilyPond, certainly not because of the manual — which regularly improves — but because music typesetting is a very complex task — see LilyPond authors' essay on automated music engraving on http://lilypond.org/web/about/automated-engraving.
So, if one day typesetting with LilyPond is really getting on your knees, don't give up but ask help on #lilypond channel!
Of course, LilyPonders are also welcome to discuss about other LilyPond-related topics! Since we're mainly musicians, we'll be glad to talk about all subjects related to music ;-)
NOTE: this channel is quite recent, so you may not find somebody up all the time. Moreover, it is not an official channel, so don't be surprised if you don't meet LilyPond hackers there. The only way to get the channel growing... is to come meet us!
See you there!
