LilyPond Wiki:About
From LilyPond Wiki
[edit] A wiki for LilyPond? What for?
This wiki is about LilyPond, a great music typesetter. It aims at being a useful source of information, in addition to more official or traditional ones:
- Lilypond official website
- documentation
- Lilypond Snippet Repository
- the mailing lists, which make up the heart of LilyPond community, and whose archives are a huge mine of information.
The purpose of the wiki is to help building a larger community; more precisely, it is intended to:
- host information that is not or cannot be in the resources cited above. This includes documentation around LilyPond, like editors support, compatible viewers, programs that export to LilyPond, post-processing software, links to sites containing LilyPond-baked music sheets,...
- digest information coming from the mailing lists. For instance, it is very difficult for newbies to find something in the archives when they do not even know what to look for. The wiki should quickly show newcomers what they can expect from LilyPond.
See our guidelines for more details.
[edit] Creation
This wiki was founded by Simon Plante.
Everything started from a discussion on IRC channel, on Thursday August 31th 2006, between Simon and John Mandereau, who told him about the old wiki. When Simon took a look at it, he reacted this way:
— well
it should be on tuxfamily :)
on a TRUE webhoster
In the next days, with further discussions, Simon and Musicovore gave shape to this idea, and you can see the result now!
