Mac users can easily use LilyPond. Contrary to what Mac users are used to, however, it does not work as an application that you double-click on. This is how to create your music:

  • Make a .ly file in your favourite text editor and save it.
  • Compile the .ly file using LilyPond to produce the pdf, a midi or a png.

The second step can be done in different ways, depending on your preference. Several methods are described on the lilypondleopard page.

Depending on the OS version, a different version of LP needs to be downloaded - see below.

For these OSs, LilyPond has a working editor, but it is quite basic. So it depends on your preference if you want to use this.
